The Pajama Program is a nonprofit organization that partners with Scholastic Books, Inc. to provide new books and new pajamas to children in need, many of whom are waiting and hoping to be adopted. Since 2001, Pajama Program has donated over one million pajamas and books to children nationwide.
Pajama Central at GMS is open once again. For the past several years, GMS has been able to donate over 100 pairs of pajamas and 100 books to needy children each December. Please join us by donating a pair of new pajamas, any size. Bring all donations to room 603. For each pair of pajamas we donate, Scholastic Books will donate a book to a child in need. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Matava.

“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens has long been a part of the sixth grade Language Arts curriculum at Griswold Middle School. The sixth grade students will take a field trip to see a live performance of this classic play on Wednesday, December 19th, at Hartford Stage.
The cost of the field trip is $30 per student and all are encouraged to attend. The attached permission slip and payment must be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher by Tuesday, October 9th, 2018. Please return both in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Checks should be made out to GMS-SAF.
As the performance time is 10:30, students will not be able to purchase lunch in the cafeteria. We ask that each student bring a bagged lunch and a drink to school that day so that we can eat after returning.

To the New Burgundy Team Student,
Welcome to the Burgundy Team! We are looking forward to an exciting year. Rest assured, your Burgundy Team teachers, as well as all of the GMS staff, will be here to help you make the transition to the middle school as smooth as possible. Below is some information that may help lessen some of your concerns.
First, we will start with the supplies you will need for your first day. You need to have:
- A sturdy back pack (No wheels)
- One 3” binder with dividers and loose leaf paper (please no zipper binders)
- #2 pencils with eraser caps
- A blue or black pen
- Two wide ruled, 70-100 sheet composition notebook-hard cover
- 3 x 5 index cards
- A highlighter
- Page Protectos
* Don’t forget to bring a pleasure reading book!
Individual teachers may have specific requirements for content area classes, but these are the basic supplies you will need on a daily basis for all classes throughout the year.
Make sure you get plenty of rest and a good breakfast for your first day of school on Thursday, August 30th. We know it is an adjustment for everyone after a long summer, but being prepared will help ease the transition. As you get on the bus in the morning, note the bus number (If you miss this, we will help you locate the information once you are at school.)
Your first day of school will be spent getting to know your schedule, the location of your classes, the procedures to follow, your teachers, and your locker. In fact, the first few days will be devoted to helping you get used to your schedule and your routine. All along the way, we will be here to help you.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Burgundy Team Team leaders, Mrs. Litke (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Mrs. Matava (email@example.com).
Students from periods 1, 2, 3 & 7, can use the following link to access their math book on-line. Students should have their usernames and passwords written on their “math reference sheet.”
Just a reminder to all students…
Friday, November 10, 2017 will be the last day of the first quarter. Make sure you do not have any missing work; grades will close and cannot be changed after that day.
Students will be given their second quarter schedule in homeroom on Mon, Nov. 13th.
Veterans Day Fun Run Permission Slip
On Friday, November 10, students at Griswold Middle School will participate in a 2
mile fun run to benefit the Connecticut Veterans Home of Rocky Hill. This agency
provides long term care to Veterans with a variety of chronic and disabling
conditions. All students are being asked to complete and return the form at the
bottom of this flyer along with $2 to their homeroom teacher in order to participate.
Forms and payment are due by November 3. We are hoping for 100% participation
in this event. Additional donations in the form of cash or checks, made out to
GMS-SAF, are also welcome. All proceeds collected will be donated to the
Connecticut Veterans Home of Rocky Hill.
On the day of the event, students will be escorted from GMS to Elm Ridge Park in the
morning, participate in a brief opening ceremony to honor our Veterans, compete in
the walk/run by grade level, and return to the school in time for lunch.
